Worship at Journey

Sing to Him a new song, play skillfully the strings, with a shout of joy!

Psalm 33:3

The Psalms offer great insight into the worship practices of ancient Israel. It’s clear from the Psalms that sometimes Israel called out to God as a community and sometimes they called out as individuals. Sometimes with thanksgiving… sometimes with need. These varied practices are also true for us today.

Like the Psalms as a whole, Psalm 33:3 is as relevant today as it was long ago. First, notice the Psalmist wants the worshipper to sing a new song to God. This is one of nearly a dozen occasions in the Bible where worshippers bring to God a new song. Worshipping with us at Journey Christian Community may mean you learn a new song or two, maybe even nearly every week! Don’t fret about it… you’re just being Biblical!

Second, the Psalmist tells worshippers to play skillfully. While none of our musicians are professionals (though many of them could be), we will always pursue excellence in our worship. Make no mistake, worship at Journey is not simply a performance or a concert, but the Journey worship team will always play as skillfully as we can. Playing and singing with excellence is exactly what God deserves, and it’s our way of thanking him with the gifts he gave us.

Finally, the Psalmist calls for a shout of joy, something mentioned nearly two dozen times in the Psalms alone! There is a level of exuberance frequently found in the Psalms that needs to be a part of our worship experience as well. Sure, there will be quieter times of meditation in our worship, but there will always be energy and enthusiasm as well.

We hope you’ll join us soon for worship at one of our Sunday morning Gathering times.
